I've got a rental 2013 Camry for the day, and basically it's exactly what everyone says it is. It's a comfortable boring appliance car , with less steering feel than anything I've ever driven.

One thing I did find though... If you defeat traction control and floor it, you can light up the front tires very easily. So if you are near Portland today and see a white Camry screeching tires and blasting Slayer, it's probably me.

The fastest car is always a rental! You should make a video of slaying the tires to slayer though. It would be a great HOTD!

Too bad Toyota doesn't make the Camry like they used to 20 years ago! They should've just kept on making that car to this day.

so if it had this magical thing we call "steering feel" would we all be happy?

No, there is no chassis communication either, and lots of body roll. But fixing the steering would certainly be a start.

And by steering feel, I mean it feels as if there is no physical link between the steering wheel and the steering rack. To me it feels disconnected and almost like playing a video game (and not a fun one) rather than driving a real car.

not trying to troll or anything (cant believe i typed the word troll for the first time ever like some teenager, jesus fucking hell) but disconnected from what? You turn the wheel and it turns, its not like you cant fell the road surface at all. That use to be the definition of refined from what i remember. Its got torque to get up better than a some cars that cant get the tires loose. I mean, its kinda silly expecting it to be a sports car. I replaced the P/S rack and pump on my old ass e36 not too long ago and it was smooth as hell afterwards. I could turn it with one finger. Still, my brothers 2013 V6 Camry is miles ahead as far as overall driving performance. Not a fair fight age wise but i just dont think its too fair for an eco car to get hate because it does not "feel" a 512 Testarossa. If its fun one is searching for, it is possible for any car, rentals especially lol. I test drove a FWD Audi A4 ( a brand and model enthusiast praise as an "engineering" God) and as far as "driving feel, chassis communication" it was on par with any other rental i've driven recently (ex. Impala, way too boucy). All in all duh if you throw it into a corner at 50 mph it will be less responsive than a FRS, it is what it is and people love it. I say just thrash the thing around, have fun, and speaking of thrash, keep the thrash metal as loud as possible \m/.

I knew a guy that rented a Sentra for like a week. After day 3, he said that he still drifted it around every corner, jamming the e-brake, but completely stone faced or while carrying on a conversation with a passenger. Never buy a used rental.

Yeah, a few weeks ago I found out that the Chevy Captiva will not upshift when placed in "manual mode"

I could literally stand on the gas in first gear and it would just bang off the rev limiter.I feel bad for the guy who end up with that one someday, pretty sure I did about 10000 miles of wear and tear myself with all the cold revving.
